Customer Experience and Product Programs Joveo Follow

The gag is simple: One magic wand, one magic wish. What would you do to change the Talent Acquisition landscape to make it better? We were at HR Tech 2022 asking industry leaders about their opinions on this crazy industry and how to improve it.

Joveo’s Customer Experience Director Madhumita Katta talks with William Tincup about the process of mobile hiring. It’s still quite difficult to complete an application on a phone, despite the industry having already moved on from this issue.

Announcer (00:01):
You’re listening to the RecruitingDaily Podcast. We are recording from HR Tech in Vegas. Thanks to our friends and partners at Joveo, we are talking to some of the best minds in HR and business and digging into the most pressing issues in the workplace so you don’t have to. Here’s your host, William Tincup.

William Tincup (00:20):
Ladies, gentlemen, this is William Tincup and we are broadcasting live from Joveo’s Booth at HR Tech. I’ve got MK in front of me and we’re going to be talking. MK, would you do us a favor and introduce yourself?

Madhumita Katta (00:31):
Sure. My name is Madhumita. I work at Joveo as a customer experience program director. As part of my role, I work with customer success teams, our internal teams to look at process improvements and things that would make it easy for them to give the best experience for our customers.

William Tincup (00:52):
Well, what I love about where you sit in the organization is you get to talk to the people that are doing the job.

Madhumita Katta (00:57):
Yes.

William Tincup (00:57):
You get to see kind of where they’re struggling, where things are easier cetera.

Madhumita Katta (01:01):
Yeah.

William Tincup (01:03):
I’m going to hand you a magic wand.

Madhumita Katta (01:07):
Thank you.

William Tincup (01:07):
If you could, because if you get to see this with your customers, if you could change anything about talent sourcing, sourcing of talent, what would you change?

Madhumita Katta (01:16):
That’s a very interesting question. I do want to give some context about what I’m going to say. Before Joveo, when I moved to the US, the first company that I worked with was Mobiled, which was our CEO’s first startup. The problem that we were trying to solve back then is the application process, specifically in the mobile devices. It’s been about 8-9 years since Mobiled happened. We moved on to other places and now I’m here, and I still see that as a big problem.

(01:49)
For me, it would be the whole application experience for candidates. How do we simplify it, make it relevant, not ask tons of questions that are not relevant at the time of getting the application. Just simplifying that would be the one thing that I would really think would transform sourcing, would make it easier for job seekers to apply to jobs in any device that they’re using. They will be just filling in details that are really basic things needed for recruiters and talent acquisition teams to process their resume. There’s always time to gather more information in the process, but in that point in time, do we really need to know the SSN? Do we really need to know their [inaudible 00:02:37] or their preferences? Really small things, but I think just improving the application experience would make a lot of difference in how we source candidates.

William Tincup (02:47):
A hundred percent. What I love about that, especially in high volume and hourly environments, they don’t have a LinkedIn profile, They don’t have a resume per se, and why are we asking for that stuff?

Madhumita Katta (02:57):
Yes.

William Tincup (02:57):
Like why… Especially over a phone.

Madhumita Katta (02:59):
Yes, yes.

William Tincup (02:59):
Or a tablet, et cetera.

Madhumita Katta (03:01):
Yeah.

William Tincup (03:01):
Great answers. Thank you so much.

Madhumita Katta (03:03):
Thank you.

William Tincup (03:04):
Absolutely. This has been wonderful. Appreciate you.

Madhumita Katta (03:05):
Thank you.
