Robin Schooling
Vice President, Consulting Growth and Innovation Cielo Follow Follow

The gag is simple: One magic wand, one magic wish. What would you do to change the Talent Acquisition landscape to make it better? We were at HR Tech 2022 asking industry leaders about their opinions on this crazy industry and how to improve it.

Cielo’s Vice President, Consulting Growth and Innovation Robin Schooling talks with William Tincup about refining sourcing down to one question in, one question out.  Allow job seekers to have a simplified experience that could lead to a more condensed hiring experience for both recruiters and their candidates.

This #HRTechConf 2022 series was hosted and brought to you by our friends and partners at Joveo!

Announcer (00:01):
You’re listening to the RecruitingDaily Podcast. We are recording from HR Tech in Vegas thanks to our friends and partners at Jovio. We are talking to some of the best minds in HR and business, and digging into the most pressing issues in the workplace, so you don’t have to. Here’s your host, Williams Tincup.

William Tincup (00:19):
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s William Tincup, and we are broadcasting live from Jovio’s booth at HR Tech. And I have one of my dear friends, Robin Schooling, whom I’ve known forever and has been a wonderful advocate for me through my career. And so I love just talking to her, period, hard stop. And Robin, would you do us a favor and tell us what you’re doing now?

Robin Schooling (00:41):
Sure. I’m actually in a still fairly new role working with Cielo, who acquired the organization that I was with. And I’m on the consulting side and actually growth and innovation as we’re growing our consulting division, our practice.

William Tincup (01:00):
Oh, that’s fantastic. Are you growing… You are consulting on HR and TA?

Robin Schooling (01:05):
Yeah. Not me personally, no. But within the consulting practice, which is about 160 or so consultants.

William Tincup (01:16):
Wow.

Robin Schooling (01:16):
And so we’ve got an employer brand marketing digital practice, talent acquisition strategy, change management. We do some DEIB, and then HR tech consulting, which not necessarily just TA consulting.

William Tincup (01:33):
Right, of course.

Robin Schooling (01:33):
That could be end-to-end HR.

William Tincup (01:34):
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And you’ve been doing this for a couple years, not at Cielo, but you’ve been a practitioner for a while.

Robin Schooling (01:42):
Yep.

William Tincup (01:43):
Love it. Okay. So Robin, here’s the bit. I’m going to hand you a magic wand.

Robin Schooling (01:48):
Yes.

William Tincup (01:49):
And if you could fix one thing in talent sourcing or the sourcing of talent, what would you change?

Robin Schooling (01:56):
I would like to get sourcing down to one question in, perhaps one question out.

William Tincup (02:09):
Oh, nice. So refine it to where it’s almost like something you could do over text.

Robin Schooling (02:14):
Something you could do over text. Something that you could do very quickly. Something you could do at scale. I would allow the people, job seekers, to come in as quickly as possible. I’d rather hire for the organization, get them in the door, find out one question that makes the determination. I have gone out, I’ve sourced these candidates, I’m asking this as one question, bring them to the organization, and then find where they fit.

William Tincup (02:48):
Right. Right, right. What I love about that is also standardized question. So you can get away from some of the adverse impacts and things like that. I love it. You are wonderful. Thank you so much.

Robin Schooling (03:01):
Thank you. You are wonderful, too.
